Low-Calorie Chocolate Apple Cake

Updated: May 23, 2020

For today's recipe I decided to co-work with my fellow Italian blogger, Silvia. She is not only an exceptional baker (and my cousin), but also the owner of Una Torta Per Amica food blog.

This recipe was created for all the people out there who just can't be satisfied. Indeed, a simple apple pie isn't enough. We must add chocolate... well, cocoa powder. Don't be greedy!

Ingredients

- 2 eggs

- 2 apples

- 40g (1.4oz) of brown sugar

- 20g (0.7oz) of milk

- 100g (3.5oz) of all-purpose flour

- 50g (1.7oz) of potato starch

- 20g (0.7oz) of bitter cocoa powder

- 8g (0.3oz) of baking powder

- cinnamon and spices as needed

Preparation: 20min | Cooking: 35min | Overall Time: 55min

Start by washing the apples. You can decide to peel them or leave the skin on for extra texture. Now cut them into cubes and put them aside.

If you want, cut some slices for decorating the top of the cake.

Now break the eggs into a bowl and add the brown sugar. Beat them together for around 7 minutes. Proceed by slowly pouring in the milk and keep beating. Now sieve the powders (flour, potato starch, bitter cocoa powder, baking powder and cinnamon) and add them to the mixture. Continue to fold in the dry ingredients until fully incorporated. Finally, add the apple cubes and integrate them.

Pour the mixture into a cake tin. Place the cake in a ventilated oven pre-heated at 175°C (347°F) and bake for 35 minutes.

Hot Tips: Instead of brown sugar and potato starch, you can use the respective amounts of granulated sugar and all-purpose flour.
